We are ready to transplant a human head, says neuroscientist

GOT your head screwed on right? This may become a pertinent question if this neuroscientist gets his way - he wants to begin transplanting heads.

Doctor Sergio Canavero of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group has outlined a medical procedure which he says will successfully connect a brain to a spinal chord - the major challenge for any such operation.

"It is my contention that the technology only now exists for such linkage," he writes in the Surgical Neurology International journal.

But how much would such a procedure cost?

Dr Canavero says you would have to put aside some $15 million for the operation alone.

Dr Canavero says his procedure is derived from successful head transplants of animals from experiments dating back to the 1970s.

The head of a rhesus monkey was transplanted to the body of another in 1970 in an experimental procedure.

The head was quickly cooled to about 12C and quickly transferred to a chilled new body.

Once the head was reconnected to the circulatory system, the body's heart was restarted and work initiated to connect the nervous system.

Dr Canavero argues that a "clean cut" by an ultra-sharp cutting implement was the key to success as it would allow the severed nerve cells to fuse with each other.

Late last month, scientists at Case Western Reserve University proved they could now restore some neural connectivity in the spinal cords of rats.

Perhaps all those people who have had their heads cryogenically frozen weren't out of their minds after all.

Save some water, Drink your sweat

A group of Swedish engineers has built a "Sweat Machine" that pulls the sweat out of damp clothing, and then purifies and filters it until it's fit to drink, and in case you're not sweaty enough to contribute, there's an exercise bike attached.

The project was dreamed up by a PR agency and UNICEF as a way of drawing attention to the many parts of the world that lack access to sufficient clean water. Whenever someone chips in sweat or drinks a cup of former sweat, sponsors will donate money to buy water purification tablets in these regions, according to the Gothia Cup's site. Could the sweat machine itself help in these places? Maybe, but not much; it requires a full load of sweat-drenched laundry to make a pint of water.

Smartwatch for Foolish people

IT'S the smartwatch created for potentially foolish people.

Japanese watchmaker Tokyoflash launched an innovative wristwatch overnight that not only tests your sobriety with a built-in game, but tests your blood alcohol level with a breathalyser built into its side.

The Kisai Intoxicated watch, offered for a launch price of $US99 until Friday night in Australia, shows the date and time, and offers alarms, as you would expect from any wristwatch.

But a breathalyser is also hidden beneath what looks like a watch dial and can be used to rate the wearer's blood alcohol level from .001 per cent to as high as .2 per cent - four times the legal Australian driving limit.

To test sobriety, or a lack thereof, wearers must unscrew the watch dial, wait while its alcohol sensor heats up, and blow into the outlet from a distance of just 2cm.

The watch's breathalyser display, to the right of its LCD screen, showcases three levels of drunkenness.

No alcohol detected earns a green light, .001 to .06 is classified as "getting drunk" and is indicated by a yellow light, and results of .061 up to .2 are officially classified as "drunk" and show a red light.

The stainless steel watch with rechargeable battery also features a "sobriety game" for those who want a second opinion, asking wearers to press a button to align a moving column with the centre of the screen.

Despite the Kisai Intoxicated's potential to rate alcohol consumption for safe driving, even its makers don't advise relying on its judgment alone.

In the last page of its manual, Tokyoflash advises: "This watch is designed for entertainment only. The retailer does not warrant that the results obtained from this breathalyser will be completely accurate or reliable and accept no liability for consequences arising from its use."

Beer drinking champion dies after winning the beer contest

Joaquín Alcaraz Gracia claimed the title of beer drinking champ during a festival in Spain Wednesday, but his victory was short-lived. The 45-year-old man died after the beer drinking contest, during which he reportedly consumed six liters of brew (about 12.5 pints) in 20 minutes.

According to local reports, Gracia won the drinking festival's top prize and hoisted his trophy into the air. But the event, held in the Gea y Truyols district of Murcia, took a tragic turn soon after when Gracia began to vomit and didn't stop.

At that time, witnesses called emergency services, believing Gracia was suffering from alcohol poisoning. Seated in a chair, Gracia was held upright while bystanders waited for medical personnel. Observers noted to local media that the heavyset man appeared to nod off.

By the time the medical team arrived, Gracia was reportedly in cardiac arrest. The 45-year-old was rushed to a local hospital, but passed away shortly after his arrival Wednesday night.

Though Gracia's alcohol consumption is believed to be a factor in his death, officials have not confirmed his specific cause of death. In fact, Mayor José Manuel Gracia walked back the official tally of how much Gracia drank, telling local newspaper La Verdad the winner consumed two to three liters during the contest.

Under the rules of the drinking competition, contestants must drink as many liter-glasses of beer as possible in the 20-minute time span.

The beer drinking contest is part of the area's annual festival, which has been held for more than 15 years. However, following the death, future festival plans have been suspended, La Nueva España notes.

Man Commits Suicide In Abeokuta For Lack Of Money To Bury Father

The city of Abeokuta in Ogun State Nigeria was in Chaos this past Saturday when a man in his 60s identified as Akanni Timothy killed himself few hours to his father’s burial.

He allegedly committed suicide for lack of money to give his late father a befitting burial.

The lifeless body of the father of eight, fondly called ‘Marshal’, was found dangling on an orange tree close to the venue of the funeral in the neighborhood at Ojugunuko, Oke-Ijemo area of Abeokuta.

It was learnt that the body was found by passers-by and raised the alarm which attracted residents.

When the news of his death filtered into the venue, many of the guests who were reported to have settled down for the party hurriedly left.

Some relations were said to have attributed the incident to the financial challenges facing the late Akanni . However, some other people described the ugly incident as spiritually motivated. One of the siblings of the deceased, who simply identified himself as Mutiu, said his late brother was in dire need of money to give their late father a befitting burial.

He said, “I told Baba Sadiat (the deceased) to join me in my tent if he knew he didn’t have the means to entertain his guests. I did not know he will kill himself”. According to him, the family received permission from the police at Ijemo who visited the scene of the incident before they removed the body of the deceased.

Lady Stabbed Boyfriend To Death On Her Birthday In Ibadan To Avoid Rape

May 5, 2013 was Onyinyechi Orakwuelum’s 18th birthday. The day she became an adult and the day she allegedly stabbed to death 19-years-old Akinwale Ayobami, who she said wanted to rape her.

Onyinye, who is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, pending investigation, narrated her story to Tribune and she said:

I am from Nkwele Ogidi in Anambra. I finished from Saint Gabriel Commercial Secondary School, Mokola, Ibadan, in 2011.

The deceased (Ayobami) was my mate in secondary school, as well as my friend Funmbi.

My parents moved to our personal house at Ologuneru community in Ibadan, so I lost contact with my friends. One day, my mother came home and told me that she saw my friend, Funmbi, and that they had also moved to Ologuneru. I was happy and we reunited.

She later gained admission into a university. In April this year, she came to me and asked if I remembered Ayobami, who was popularly called Ewizzy. She said they chatted on Facebook and that he told her that he was also living at Ologuneru, and had asked her to meet him at a junction so that she could know his place.

I told her that I could not recollect the name so she went alone.

The next time she wanted to go there, she asked me to follow her. I initially refused, but she persuaded me. We got there and saw him. His girlfriend was also there, lying on a couch. We relived our secondary school days and he later requested for my number since we were living in the same area. I gave him.

We left and not too long after, he called me, saying that he had been calling Funmbi’s number but it was switched off. He said he wanted to know if I had got home. Funmbi was beside me then so she also answered because her phone battery had gone flat by then.

Since then, I did not hear from him, though there was a day I missed his call, but I could not call him back as I had no credit on my phone.

On my birthday on May 5, I went to help a lady in our neighbourhood after coming back from church. When I checked my phone later, I saw Ayobami’s call among others that I had missed.

I called him back and while chatting, I told him that day was my birthday. He congratulated me and said it was worth celebrating. I told him I was only marking it.

He asked where I was and I said Ologuneru, he then asked me to join him at Ologuneru junction. I went there at about 7p.m. and I saw him come out of a beer parlour. I didn’t know that he was already drunk.
On getting to his apartment, he took me through the back door. When I asked why, he said the lock on the front door was bad so he locked it with a padlock.

I told him I preferred to sit outside because it was pitch dark inside. He opened the front door and I went in. We put on torchlights.

I made a call to a friend while he was busy on his laptop. Later, he made a call to his mother.

We started discussing about school days again and he then went to the kitchen and offered me water. I told him I was o.k. and he went into the kitchen again.

It was at that point that Onyinyechi said the story changed. She narrated further:

“He came back and locked the front door with a padlock. I asked him why he did that but he just sat beside me and said he wanted to date me. I even thought he was joking, and I replied that ‘is that what we came here to do?’ but he told me he was very serious.

As he moved closer, I perceived a strong smell of alcohol, then I knew he was drunk.

“I asked again: ‘AY, are you drunk?’ he replied that he was not drunk, saying he meant what he said. I told him I could not date him and he replied that if I could not date him, then he must have sex with me before I leave.

I told him to open the door for me to leave but he said I was not going anywhere. I started pleading but he did not yield.

“The next thing he did was to pull off his trousers and I knew I was in trouble because I could see he was aroused. He told me I could see that he was in mood for sex and that he must have his way.

I opened the sliding window screaming ‘somebody, please help me!, Somebody, please, save me!’. He came there, slapped me, drew me back and locked the window.

I started running round the sitting room and he was pursuing me.

“He went to the kitchen and brought a knife, warning me not to waste his time.
He threatened to do something nasty to me if I did not yield to him after counting from one to 10.

He had said before that he loved his mother so I begged him in the name of his mother, he did not yield ground.

I begged him in the name of God but he said he left God a long time ago and that he was serving Ogun. He showed me the picture of a bird hanged on the wall and said that was the symbol of his god.

I also told him I was having my menses but he said I should allow him to do what he wanted to do, saying that if his friends should meet me in the house, they would take their turns with me.

He lit a cigarette and started smoking. He started his countdown but I knelt and was pleading. As he got to eight, I screamed the more but he rushed at me and started struggling with me to remove the bum shorts I was wearing underneath my long dress.

In the process, he dropped the knife, and at that moment of intense fear, I picked the knife and waved it at him in the darkness. The next thing I heard was Yee! O ti gun mi (Oh! You have stabbed me).

I stood up, shivering. I searched for my phone because the entire place was in topsy-turvy.

Throughout the struggling, no one responded among his neighbours, though he had earlier said that no one would respond to me as they regard the occupants of his flat as ‘Dons’ who are dreaded.

“I reported at home and we went to the police station to report. By the time we got back to the house, he was dead. It was in the morning that it was seen clearly that the knife pierced his heart.”

Sunday Tribune gathered that the deceased’s mother had been so distraught about his death that she had been calling for justice to be done to her son’s killer.

She was said to be separated from the boy’s father and had remarried and given birth to other children while Ayobami was the only child she had for the father.

Police investigations also revealed that the man Ayobami was living with in the flat was not related to him.

Reacting to the story, the Assistant Commissioner of police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, ACP Dasuki Galadanchi said the matter was still being investigated.

There is no witness yet to support the suspect’s story. On the side too, dead bodies cannot talk. There was no witness on the side to corroborate whether there was an attempted rape or not.

In line with the police strategy of the Inspector General of police which encourages openness, transparency and accountability, we will go deeper into investigations and get to the root of the matter. If she’s found culpable, she’ll be charged to court accordingly. We are for justice.

Over 1m Nigerians Live In London – Lord Mayor Of London

Mayor of Brent, London, Micheal Adeyeye, has disclosed that the population of Nigerian immigrants in London has hit over 1 million people.

Meantime, Governor Babtunde Fashola of Lagos and Mayor of London, Mr. Alderman Gifford stressed the need to strengthen bilateral ties between Lagos and London.

The duo who spoke during a courtesy visit by the Mayor at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja, said that the population of Nigerian and United Kingdom immigrants in both cities have showed that the bilateral ties between both countries was age-long.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Vanguard, Adeyeye, one of the three councillors in London, said that “Lagos is like London because it is full of people with diverse ethnic background.

“That is why we all need to work together so that we can all gain effectively from each another. We have a large community of Nigerians in London, and the population of Nigerians living in the city is over 1 million. This was what we got from the high commission.”

He noted that “this was the reason why there was need to foster business relation between the two nations particularly Lagos and London. And all our efforts would be geared towards ensuring that the partnership grows from strength to strength.”

He expressed joy over the ties, saying “I am happy that this is happening between Nigeria and UK. We all know that there is an age long relation between the two countries.”

Fashola, in his speech said that London and Lagos have made tremendous progress in various sectors of their economy, saying,“I believe that with this, we can learn from each other’s success.”

The governor said; “Today, Lagos is now dealing with challenges of becoming a global city state in the sense that there are several opportunities in the state. And it has become an attractive destination for the world.

“And as we move towards improving our economy in Lagos, there is need for us to strengthened our bilateral ties especially with United Kingdom,” he said.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Gifford said “London is a very great city but we realised that London must strengthen its relation with other countries especially Nigeria because there are many Nigerians living in the city. “And this could be further explained by the five commercial banks out of the 250 commercial banks in the city owned by Nigerians,” he said.

According to him, “We have a lot to explore but we believe that to achieve this, it must be done by allowing equal partnership. We believe that the economy that would grow in the next 50 years will be coming from an economy that has great base with a better financial market. If we are going to survive, we must work with these economies. And Lagos is among these economies that have been identified.”

Good Samaritan Or Sex Abuser? Meet The Man Who Has Fathered 49 Children For Strangers

To some women, Professor Gennadij Raivich is a hero.

For years, quietly and without fuss, the 50-year-old neuroscientist has donated his sperm to childless couples and single women who contact him via the internet, where he advertised his services as an artificial insemination donor.

The married father of three is estimated to have fathered at least 49 babies via unlicensed donor websites and, had it not been for his arrest in March on suspicion of sexual assault, he might well have gone on to father more.

But police have spoken to at least three women, one of whom is believed to be pregnant with his child, who claim that the academic, who works at University College, London, and is an expert on maternal and foetal medicine, sexually assaulted them.

While detectives continue their investigations, it should be made clear that Professor Raivich, who has been bailed until June, has not yet been charged with any offence.

This week he told the Mail that while he 'would very much like' to put across his side of the story, he had been advised by his solicitor not to make any comment.

But his arrest has lifted the lid on the hidden dangers of private sperm donation in Britain — an unregulated process that takes place behind closed doors via amateur internet sites.

Women longing for babies put up appeals for donors, while men across the country offer their sperm for nothing more than their travelling expenses.

Step into this underground world and it is all too clear to what lengths some desperate women will go to fulfil their dreams of having a child.

One woman, posting on Facebook this week under her own name, wrote: 'Is there any donors available for tomoro (sic)? Can possibly travel or meet. I am in Somerset.'

And a donor offering his services writes: 'I've donated sperm before. It's quite good stuff.'

The dangers of using such websites are all too obvious. While some sites claim they have their own self-imposed rules to safeguard users, many of them serve as a gateway to an underground world of unknown medical histories and risky meetings with strangers.

Some sperm donor sites allow only donors who offer AI — artificial insemination.

But other more unscrupulous sites offer NI — natural insemination. On these sites, there seems to be no shortage of men offering to have sex with women, knowing that their sole intent is to have a baby.

There is no suggestion that Professor Raivich offered NI.

On one such website, a donor wrote: 'It's cold outside, wish I was tucked up in bed with someone wanting NI at moment.'

On a Facebook page, one woman wrote an account of how her sperm donor had tried to coerce her into having sex with him.

'My donor was always hinting about NI day after day, even though I always said AI only.

'Today he was sending me nasty text messages. When I told him that I have my boundaries, he started sending really horrible messages to me.'

In addition to the risks taken by women, the sperm donors are also in a vulnerable position.

Under British law, men donating sperm through licensed clinics are not the legal father of any child born through that donation, but men who donate privately — as Professor Raivich has — are the legal father of any children born and so could find themselves faced with child support claims.

Equally, a donor could insist on having access to any child he helps produce.

A spokesman for the HFEA — the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Authority, the government body that regulates UK fertility treatment — told the Mail this week:

'If an individual decides to have treatment outside of a licensed clinic, they need to be aware of the risks and implications.

'This is something the HFEA has no legal power to regulate. We strongly recommend that patients who wish to use donor sperm in treatment do so through an HFEA-licensed clinic.

'It is only when treatment takes place at a licensed clinic that a person can be confident of the quality and safety of the donation and that the relevant consents of legal parenthood of the child are completed.

'In addition, a donor-conceived person can access information about their donor or any donor-related genetic siblings from the HFEA's register.' Distributing sperm without a licence from the HFEA has been a criminal offence since 2007, but it is impossible to regulate sites that merely introduce donors and recipients and allow them to make private arrangements.

On some donor websites, Professor Raivich offered his services using the pseudonym 'Frank Qalman'. His posts include a private email address and a message that reads: 'For medical advice or more, please email me directly.'

Just why Professor Raivich, who has a wife and family in Munich and a professional reputation to uphold, felt the need to enter this murky world, rather than donate via a licensed clinic, is not entirely clear.

Born in New Zealand and raised in the Lower Hutt area outside Wellington, he spent his childhood moving between Australia, Greece and Israel.

He settled in Germany, where he graduated in medicine from the Free University in Berlin in 1984 and received his MD degree a year later.

He went on to study at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in Martinsried before moving to Britain in 2001 to work at UCL's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

In an interview he gave in January to a Sunday newspaper, he described being a sperm donor as 'like a hobby or a charitable act' and said that he 'got satisfaction by helping'. He added that he offered his services as a donor and as a doctor because he 'loved children' and wanted to bestow the gift of parenthood on others.

He added: 'The first couple I helped were lesbians who were desperate for a baby. I helped them get pregnant on their first cycle. They were delighted and I shared their joy.

'They come to these sites because they can't afford the substantial cost of getting a donor through a clinic. I never ask for money, only travel expenses.'

He also defended the number of children he has fathered — despite the fact that the HFEA set ten families per donor as its guideline.

Professor Raivich said: 'I think this is just based on moral horror, not that there is much risk that offspring will accidentally meet and set up homes with half-siblings.

'The risks of this are very low. In America, there is no restraint on the number of children a donor can father. In the Netherlands, it's 25 per donor.'

One woman helped to conceive by Frank leapt to his defence.

'I am one of his recipients, and I am in contact with the mothers of many of my son's siblings.

'You will be hard pushed to find one among the many that has a bad word to say about Frank.

'He has been nothing but sweet, helpful and accommodating to all the women he has helped.'

This week, Laura Witjens, the chief executive of the National Gamete Donation Trust, which offers advice to those involved in egg and sperm donation, says that it defies belief that women choose to put themselves at risk by using unregulated sperm donor websites.

'Personally, I find it staggering that when it comes to something as important as the creation of your child, you can't even fork out £1,000 to £1,500.

'Yes, it's a lot of money, but it's so important. It's less than most people would pay for a second- hand car.

'Using a licensed clinic offers medical and legal protection to recipient and donor. Sperm will be screened and an extensive medical background check will be made, which is important for picking up hereditary illnesses.'

Two years ago, while researching the underground world of sperm donation, Ms Witjens posed online as a woman in search of a donor.

'I was horrified,' she says. 'Many of these men are creative with the truth. They are all Olympic athletes with an IQ of 150!

'And even if they say they have a medical certificate, women need to understand that ten seconds after it's been issued, that certificate is useless.' [What she means by this is that a man's clean bill of health can be changed in an instant.]

'What worries me most is that women using these sites are often vulnerable, and need support and good advice. But as long as they are prepared to use these sites, there will be men prepared to offer their services to them.'

Whatever the outcome of the police investigation into Professor Raivich, there is little doubt that he put himself in a vulnerable position by offering his services in an unregulated manner.

This week, his wife, a neurology specialist who uses the name Dr Birgit Basedow-Rajwich and lives in a flat in the upmarket area of Kempfenhausen just outside Munich, insisted she was standing by her husband.

'A wife supports her husband,' she said. 'We are certain this is all a big misunderstanding that will be sorted out. This is a stressful time, but we will come through it.

P-Square Denies Private Jet Ownership “We Plan To Buy One Soon"

Does p square have a private jet? Na lie we no get one we borrow am.

Nigeria’s #1 celebrity twin brothers, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye of P-Square have debunked the story that they own a private jet.

In this latest interview with Victor Akande, below is what the duo said when queried about their private jet ownership;

It’s not true my brother. We had a deal with a private jet company, which provides that whenever we are going to a specific place, we would be provided a jet. That way, they always gave us their private jets to travel with. This makes our trips easier.

On the other hand, we are close to the presidents of most African countries, so when they hear that we are coming to their country, they usually send their private jets to pick us wherever we are. But that is not to say we can’t acquire our own jet. As a matter of fact, we are planning to get ours.

Acquiring a private jet is very expensive.

In the past 10 years wealthy Nigerians have invested over 1.4 trillion naira on Private jets acquisition.

Money dey plenty for this country o.

Road To Redemption: Wizkid And EME Music In Talks For Reconciliation

(Singing) When I grow older, I will be stronger, they’ll call me Wizkid, just like a waving flag.

Now that’s an adulterated version of a song that was inspired by this report:

Sources close to EME Music reveal that there is hope for reconciliation between estranged EME parties; the ‘Boss’ Banky W, and the independent upstart Wizkid. If everything hits the plan, Wizkid and EME will step together in mutual agreement.

The source made a revelation that lawyers of both parties have been engaged in deep negotiations over the past weeks in bid to create an improved contract for Wizkid.

“Wizkid leaving EME was just his way of pushing the bosses at the label to take him seriously and increase his earning percentage. When he joined EME he wasn’t a star but then he became a mega star and was making a lot of money for the label and they still didn’t increase his earning percentage so he took a walk. Now they are working on a new contract that will favour Wizkid.” The source said

The only presently revealed sneek-peek into the contract says that EME Music will not get a dime from all of Wizkid’s international deals.

Hot Combo! Wale And Wizkid To Combine In New Album

Mix it, old and new…

Nigerian-born rapper Wale has announced that Nigerian thoroughbred Wizkid will feature on his forthcoming album ‘The Gifted’ scheduled for release on June 25, 2013.

The Maybach Music Group ensign revealed this a few weeks ago on Twitter while dropping some hints on how his new album would sound.

‘Best believe I got some new music for that green white green on my new album.. Ask @wizkidayo‘, @Wale wrote.

This comes as a bit of a follow-up on Wale’s declaration that Wizkid is his favourite African artiste.

The pair must have done some lyrical romance in the studio last year; because Wizkid also disclosed in an interview with OK! Magazine that he had enlisted Wale’s artistry on his upcoming mixtape.

We The Best! Nigeria Is The 9th Most Visited Country In Africa

Well, almost the best…

Forget about the Boko Boys and their bombing campaign, pay no heed to the tales of people who say we aren’t tourist friendly, but our Nigeria, our darling Naija is one of the best 10 places people think of when they want to have a taste of Mama Africa and all her wondrous gifts of nature.

Maybe it’s the beautiful ladies with their elegant bodies which feature the classic high-rounded butt (that alone is a tourist attraction). Maybe it’s the extreme weather conditions, or the admirable cultural and landscape heterogeneity with which this country is blessed with, but Nigeria is the ninth most visited country by foreigners in Africa.

With 1.4 million arrivals, according to findmehotel.net, Nigeria is also the leading destination of foreigners in West Africa and is more favoured by usual tourist destinations such as Kenya and Namibia. In 2010, a survey by doitinafrica.com had come up with similar results, and now 3 years down the road, irrespective of the inherent dynamics of our national existence, the result still holds true.

According to the available statistics, Kenya is the 10th most visited country in Africa, with 1.39 million visitors. Namibia is the 11th with 980,000 people.

Egypt in North Africa tops the list with 14 million visitors. It is followed by Morocco with 9.29 million. South Africa is third with 8.07 million, while Tunisia is fourth with 6.9 million visitors.

Zimbabwe and Mozamique follow in that order with 2.24million and 2.22 million visitors yearly.

Algeria with 1.91 million visitors and Botswana with 1.55 million come sixth and seventh.

How I Sold My Virginity For N10, 000

I still remember that very cold night of September 1, the day I decided to sell my body even though I claim to be a born again Christian. I did that because I was tired and frustrated about my father’s constant nagging because I was still single at my age.
He made it look like a sin to be single. His constant nagging made me feel that God had forgotten about me after all my years of serving Him. It was frustrating still being a virgin and single at the age of 36. However, I sold my virginity to a man I don’t know, for a common N10, 000. If only I had remained just a little more patient at that time I would have married my God ordained husband but I thank God for giving me a second chance.

As a growing young woman, I had how I wanted my life to play out. For me, I should be married at the age 25 to the most loving and wonderful man on earth and be done with child bearing at age 30 or 31 and watch my children grow up with me.
But like the saying goes, man proposes but God disposes. I became a born again Christian in my second year at the University of Lagos. I was so deep into Christianity that all I had time for were church programmes and my books. I had some ‘brothers’ who liked me but then I was not interested in men because I felt they would be a distraction as I wanted to focus on school and God alone.
I am the eldest of four children, three girls and a boy. Our mother died about seven years ago and we were left with our father. The truth be told, I am the only Christian in my family, the others hardly go to church but it seems everything moved on fine for them except me. My two younger sisters got married to responsible and wealthy men while I was still praying to God to give me a husband.
I had moments when all I did was to cry myself to sleep because of my father’s attitude towards me regarding marriage. I had ‘brothers’ from church who asked for my hand in marriage but the problem was that they all wanted to go to bed with me first but that was not what I wanted. My father believed that I was still single because of my rules and standards; hence he decided to frustrate me.
Sometimes, when I get home from church, he would ask the gateman not to open the gate for me which means I had to go and sleep at any of my sister’s place. Sometimes once I get home especially from church, he would say, “Abigail, so where is the man you came home with? You carry the Bible everyday yet you are not married.
You sister’s who do not even go to church are married so what is the essence of carrying a Bible every day? You better ask your sisters how and where they got the men they got married to from so that you too can toe that path. It got so bad that he complains about whatever I do and this really worried me. One day, precisely September 1, I took a rather drastic decision which I still deeply regret.
I said to myself, “What has serving God and being a virgin at my age benefitted me? I am still single and my father is frustrating and making a mockery of me. I am tired. It is all going to end this night, I want to be wayward tonight,” I murmured. That night, I lied to my father that I was going for a vigil; he looked at me from headto- toe hissed and walked away. I found myself in front of a brothel with some other girls as my heart was beating so fast. In less than 20 minutes, two men arrived in a jeep and one said he was interested in spending the night with me; he introduced himself as Gabriel while the other man sat quietly as if he was disgusted with what his friend was doing.
He later introduced himself as Robert. Initially, I was so scared but after we talked for a while, I followed them to their room. Gabriel proposed to pay me N10, 000 and I agreed. When we got to the hotel, it was obvious that they had just come into the country. I spent the night with Gabriel in his room and he was surprised that I was a virgin. He asked me my age and I told him.
He shocked me when he said, “If at age 36 you are still a virgin, then, you should have had more patient and waited till your wedding night instead of giving it away to a total stranger and for a mere N10,000.” Tears dripped down my cheeks as if a sword was being used to pierce through my chest. “Abigail, the truth is that no matter what you are passing through in the hands of your father, you should have exercised more patient.
But the truth is that if I was not already married, I would have married you,” Gabriel emphasised. I left Gabriel’s hotel room feeling so sad and rejected. A week later, Hannah, my friend in church came to pay me a surprise visit at home. “Hannah, I can’t remember the last time you came to my house,” I said. She smiled and told me her brother who lives in the United Kingdom just came into the country. “My elder brother just came into the country. But Abigail what you don’t know is that I have told him a lot of good things about you.
One of the reasons he is in the country is so that he will meet you so that you people can talk. He said he is willing to settle down within three months if you agree to marry him.” At first I was happy but when I remembered what I had done, tears rolled down my eyes. For Hannah, she thought it was tears of joy that I was finally going to be married whereas for me, it was tears of regret.
Three days later, Hannah called to inform me that she had arranged for me to meet her brother in their house. I was so eager to meet him, however when I got there I prayed for the ground to open up and swallow me. I discovered that her brother was Robert and he recognised me instantly while I pretended never to have seen him. “Brother Robert, meet my friend Abigail, the woman I have been telling you about. I know you will like her,” she stressed. “I have seen this face before. Yes, she was the prostitute Gabriel picked up some days ago,” he disclosed.
Hannah tried to tell him that he was mistaking me for someone else but he was so sure of what he was saying because I didn’t defend myself. At last, I told Hannah what happened and she was so disappointed. Robert told me, “I actually came to Nigeria because of you. My sister wanted me to get married to you because she likes and admires you so much. Hannah told me, you are the best wife any man could ask for but I guess she is wrong. As a born again Christian, you should have held on firmly to God no matter the temptation,” he emphasised. He told me to go back to God and ask for forgiveness. He also opened up that he would have gone ahead to marry me if I had slept with another man but not his best friend, Gabriel who was already married. I left there in tears and shame.
Hannah told me he went back to the UK about three days later disappointed and heartbroken. Well, I know some ladies out there would have done worse than I did, but I am not judging anyone. My main concern is that parents should stop tormenting and putting pressure on their unmarried daughters because they would only push them to do unimaginable things which they later regret in life and find it very difficult to forgive them.
It took me sometime to forgive my father because I blamed what I did on him. But just as Robert advised, I went back to God and asked forgiveness and I am happy to say that God gave me a second chance at marriage. I will be getting married in a few weeks.

How 18-year-Old Girl Escaped From Ritualists’ Den

18 year-old girl, Miss Ladi Okoro who works at Mararaba, a suburb of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, must have heard tales of how people fall victims of ritualists, yet she had not experienced one until Wednesday, 6th March, 2013 when some ritualists picked her and 2 others from Mopol Junction in Mararaba, after the young girl had closed from work.

Ladi who narrated her experience in the hands of the ritualists to DailyPost said she could only remember when the driver of the red taxi that picked them from the junction stopped for them to get into the car.
According to Ladi, it was like a movie scene as she only realized she was in trouble when she woke up midnight to discover that she was not in the house but in the midst of some strange faces.
“All I remembered at that point was when I got into that car. After then, we all slept off, and the driver of the red taxi took us far into the bush. I woke up midnight to realize that I was in a strange place. We met 5 other victims, but they were all ‘dead’ asleep”.
Ladi said the moment she realized that she was at the wrong place, she began to pray alongside one of the girls who boarded the same taxi.
“When I realized that I was in the wrong place, I quickly went into meditation and prayer. I told God that it was not yet time for me to die. We both refused to sleep.
When others were sleeping, we were crying and praying. They put guns on our head and asked us to keep quiet. We were never ready to give up as we continued to pray even in silence.
Fortunately for me, they stepped out of the uncompleted building, then my phone rang. I summoned courage to speak to my people. I had told them what had happened before the conversation was cut short, as the ritualists rushed into the building to cease all our phones, warning me and the other girl to remain quiet or we would be killed.”
“However, we did not stop crying and praying. Our persistent prayers put them off balance.”
Disclosing how both of them were freed, Ladi said ” We cried and prayed till the next day, and at about 9am, the ritualists had a brief meeting and threw our bags out of the building.
We walked round the bush, trying to trace our way back to town.
However, we came out at one express way, where we discovered that we had gone far into Kefi forest. We were helped by some good Nigerians.
A young boy who claimed he knew where the ritualists operate had volunteered to take the police to the uncompleted building. Though, we didn’t go with them again, we were told that the men had vacated the building before the police got there.”
Speaking on the fate of the other six they left at the place, Ladi said “I really pity them. They didn’t even know what was happening. They were deeasleep. Now that the police said they have vacated the uncompleted building, I really don’t know what must have happened to them. They could be killed.
I just pray nothing happens to them.”
Among the other six victims, Ladi said they were 4 young women and 2 young men.
When DailyPost visited one of the police stations around Kefi, in Nasarawa state, the police disclosed that they were told about the incident, and efforts were on top gear to rescue the remaining victims.
Ladi has since been reunited with her family after they had suffered much trauma.

‘Devil Nurse’ Poses With Dead Patient, Then Posts The Picture On Facebook

A ‘nurse’ is being investigated after posting pictures on Facebook of herself standing over an apparently dead patient and asking people to guess if she is alive.

The woman, who was dressed in a nurse’s uniform, called herself the ‘soul thief’ and also posted comments including ‘Hail Satan’.
Authorities in St Gallen, Switzerland, about 85km from Zurich, have now launched an investigation and the public prosecutor said they will then decide whether to press charges.
Swiss authorities are now investigating after the woman, dressed as a nurse, posted a picture of an elderly patient and asked Facebook users to guess if she was alive or dead.
Pictures posted on her Facebook page include images of her dressed in a rubber nurse uniform in front of whips and chains and one of her standing in front of an ambulance
The woman, who goes by the name Ghostinthedark Satania Blaze on the social network site, put four pictures up of the patient lying in a bed, including close ups of the woman’s face.
In one she is seen leaning on the patient’s pillow and smiling.
When other Facebook users questioned the woman, she wrote: ‘I can put anything I want in my Facebook’.

One user wrote: ‘Why you put on fb a picture like this? Your boss at work know that?’
Another wrote: ‘That’s messed up and sad at the same time.’
But the woman retorted: ‘Death is normal people die all the time!’

Nigerian Gay Church Resume Operations In Lagos

Less than five years after Nigeria-only gay church, House of Rainbow, was attacked by some Lagos residents and consequently closed down in Nigeria, the church has returned to the country with three secret groups in the African most populous nation.
With this development, Nigeria appears to lead other countries where the church currently operates.
Founded by Nigerian-born gay, Rev. Rowland Jide Macaulay, House of Rainbow, which came to Nigeria in 2006, is “an inclusive and affirming religious community open and welcome to all people including sexual minorities and marginalised people, a monthly gathering of ‘people of faith’ for ‘prayer and praise’, which focuses on the person’s journey towards reconciliation of sexuality and spirituality.”
Macaulay, a trained lawyer and son of a reverend who owns a massive church in Lagos, is leading the comeback even though he remains in self-imposed exile in London, where sources said he currently enjoys lots of financial sponsorship for the movement.
Unlike in the pre-2008 when the church openly operated at Jakande Estate, Isolo, and Berger in Lagos, Macaulay, who is the backbone of the movement, is not secretive of the meeting places and time of the church in Nigeria, but has instituted a very stringent process to screen prospective members of coming to join the church.
It was learnt that aside Nigeria, the church has two groups each in Ghana and United Kingdom (UK).
“We now have new groups in Malawi and Ghana. There are currently three groups in Nigeria, two each in Ghana and the UK and one each in Malawi, Lesotho and Burundi. All these groups are managed by volunteers, who are appointed through a rigorous ‘Local Leader Application’ process.
“We currently have 12 appointed Local Leaders in 6 countries. Currently we have over 25 outstanding applications for local leaders including, but not limited to the following locations: France, Netherlands, Cote d’Ivoire, Sierra-Leone. This has continued to strengthen the interest and work of House Of Rainbow particularly in Africa,” Macaulay

Impotent Man Killed Himself In Asaba Delta State Over Inability To Make Love To Wife

A despondent palm wine tapper, identified as Nwandu (Surname withheld) operating in Ugbolu community near Asaba, yesterday, allegedly committed suicide following his inability to make love to his wife in the last few weeks.

Reports said that the palm wine tapper, a native of Ogbaru in Anambra state, has been married to his wife for over seven years before his sex organ began to disappoint him.

Sources said that the man has been having problem with his genitals since the beginning of the month of February this year.

The resultant failure on his part to satisfy his wife sexually, gave rise to repeated quarrels especially as he blamed malaria for his dereliction of duty.

It was gathered that the situation persisted until last Thursday night when he allegedly made another failed attempt.

Sources revealed that the palm wine tapper in the early hours of that fateful day had complained of stomach discomfort to his wife who unsuspectingly gave him tissue paper for toilet.

But the near hopeless dashed into the bush path where he allegedly hung himself on a tree.

Police authorities in the state confirmed that the body of the palm wine tapper has been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre Mortuary for autopsy and added that investigation was ongoing.

15-Year-Old Boy Rapes Girl, 14 After Watching Porn For Hours

15-year-old boy brutally rapes schoolgirl of 14-years-old after spending hours on pornography websites.

Trying to re-enact sadistic scenes he had viewed on hardcore porn sites, the 15-year-old had the girl gagged, bound, beaten up, and raped.

He and a friend had threatened the girl with knives, had her head covered with a plastic bag and a scarf tightened around her neck before carrying out the act.

The battered and bruised girl had to bite through the bag in order to breathe and has been left emotionally and psychologically scarred.

Judge Simon Bourne-Arton, QC, said:

“I have no doubt the trigger for this offence was the child’s wish for experimentation following visits to internet porn.”

At an earlier hearing Judge Bourne Arton -where he described the attack as ‘heinous’- told the older boy:
“The full horror of what you did, only she can know. You had for many months, spent many days trawling through internet pornography.
“The full horror of what you did, only she can know. You had for many months, spent many days trawling through internet pornography.
Your interest in sexual matters was heightened and heightened, unfulfilled, and you wanted to experiment.
The relatives of the girl and the rapist have called on the Government to design a measure to help stop kids’ access to online pornography.
Weak-willed you may be and weak-minded you may be, but you knew everything that you did to her. You may have been led, but you were led willingly.’
The girl’s father, who runs a small business, added: ‘This will affect her for the rest of her life. She’s very quiet now, she’s a different person.”
“Restrictions should be put in place.

This attack on my daughter was pre-planned. They were re-enacting porn they had watched online.

Kids of five are looking at porn, which is horrendous. When we were that age we were playing with toy soldiers.” the girl’s dad spoke out.
he continued: “They can get it anywhere, on their iPhones and other mobiles really easily. Any porn is inappropriate for children but it’s the extreme violent nature of it that is worrying.”
The older boy and accomplice friend, 14 admitted that they had engaged in rape and false imprisonment at an earlier hearing.
The 15-year-old is sentenced to three years at Teesside Crown Court while his friend bagged a four-year time for having been the one who instigated the idea. But the girl’s father slammed the terms:
He said:
“They’ll be out in a year, perhaps two. But this will affect my daughter for ever. She is very quiet now, she is a different person.”
The older boy’s gran said after the case: “We had no idea he was watching porn until it was said in court.”

Suggesting ways to curb chiljd access to online porn, Lisa Harker, of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), said:
“Sadly we are hearing about more and more cases like this. ChildLine has seen a surge in calls from young people exposed to hard core pornography on the internet and from young girls saying they are being pestered, coerced and even forced into mimicking these videos.
The industry must help parents block these videos.”
Vivienne Pattison, director of campaign group Mediawatch-UK, added:
“This case is a potent example of the potential damage that can be done by porn.
It’s definitely the way forward to block porn for everyone unless they opt in to it.”

Driver Runs Away With Truck First Day Of Employment

driver with Dunamis Excel Company, Niyi Omoshanu, has allegedly absconded with an LT-40 pickup filled with the product of the company.

The driver allegedly took off with the properties on his first day at work in the firm.
Subsequent police investigation had shown that every document and information that Omoshanu presented to the company were false.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, who pleaded to be identified only by his first name, Funso, told PUNCH Metro that Omoshanu was employed without getting his approval.
He said, “My company produces both bottled and sachet water but I am not always at our factory because we have manager who takes charge of things there.
“We own three trucks and often use them to make deliveries to our customers.”
Funso said when the driver resumed, there was a “minor challenge” at the factory as some goods due to be delivered to a customer could not be moved to their destination.
He said, “On Feburary 11, 2013, we were scheduled to make a delivery at Adeniji Adele on Lagos Island but the driver, who was to make the delivery had not shown up.
“The general manager had interviewed Omoshanu with the aim of verifying his contacts later.
“Since there was no other driver available, the manager decided to allow Omoshanu begin work so that he could make the delivery.”
He said about 12pm, Omoshanu was accompanied by two motor-boys working for the company to make the delivery.
Odegbami said, “I was told that as they were about to take off after the delivery, one of the motor-boys discovered that the payment made by the customer was incomplete. So he came out of the vehicle and went back to the lady. After a while, Omoshanu told the second motor-boy to get his colleague so that they could leave the area on time because of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
“The diver told them that he was not comfortable being on the spot where the vehicle was parked.”
Immediately the second boy went into the customer’s office, Omoshanu took off with the vehicle and the remaining goods.
The first boy, who came out, allegedly chased the vehicle. But Omoshanu was too fast and drove in the direction of Third Mainland.
When the general manager received the news, he dug up Omoshanu’s curriculum vitae and referees.
However, every one of them turned out to be false.
On his CV, Omoshanu had given his house address as 218 Enuowa Street, Lagos Island. But police discovered that it was a non-existent house number.
On his driver’s licence, there was a different address in Ilupeju. That adress turned out to be false also. His telephone number 07011940708 had also been switched off.
The white LT-40 truck, with registration number, KJA 486 XD, has also not been found.
Funso said, “We took it upon ourselves to check all LASTMA stations and Vehicle Inspection Unit offices, but the truck was not found. The case is still at Soloki Police Station Aguda.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident.
Braide said, “After the matter was reported at the police station, the suspect was trailed to an address at Okokomaiko. The address turned out to be fake.
The suspect is still at large and investigation is still ongoing.”
